To Jeff et al.
I love Mobius! It is the basis for all my music and I have nothing but the deepest respect for Jeff for all his incredible work. To do this for little or no financial gain in these times is truly amazing and generous.

That said, are there any plans to overhaul the gui of mobius? I know you can add/delete buttons and change the color scheme. But it would be totally rad if you could have the option to resize or build your own out of components. I really only use the track section as all controls are done via midi.

Are there any alternate gui's available as with Sooperlooper and other open source devices?

If the answer is no, then I will live very happily with Mobius as it is. It's just me trying to get it perfect for me. What else is new.

A GUI overhaul is long overdue but I'm not sure when I'll get to it.
I added the ability to change font sizes awhile ago, and will soon
add the ability to change component sizes like the diameter of knobs.
But the fundamental layout and components will stay the same for awhile.

Version 1.40 has support for exposing just about everything as a VST
or Audio Unit parameter so if you're using a Mac with Mainstage or
Max/MSP you could design your own UI on top of plugin parameters.

SooperLooper supports OSC for people to write alternative UIs. I've considered this but the audience would be limited to hard-core programmers. Does anyone know of a nice interface builder that sends OSC so that non-programmers
could design UIs?

Lunamusic et all,

If using the AU plug-in of Mobius, here is an example of how GUI can be taken over by Mainstage 2:

I can't say I use GUI much though, since control everything from MIDI pedals, mixer and buttonpad and am too busy playing instruments to look at the screen. Because of that I keep only the most important information monitored on screen; like CPU usage, what parameters my MIDI pedals control in the Mainstage patch I happen to be using, 8ths Per Cycle, Feedback and Secondary Feedback levels, tempo etc etc. I also have a small note pad on the screen to remind me how my 128 buttons pad is linked to Mobius.

Your pictures are a great help to understand how to integrate Mobius in Mainstage, thank you.

Is there a way in which you can create a simple "concert setup" in Mainstage that you can upload here and that we can then modify and share?

This could save all of us a lot of time and maybe each one can add little tweaks to make a very good "open source" plugin.

I'm afraid that would make sense only if you were using the same external control gear as I do, since the concert directly reflects my choice of pedals, buttons and faders.

To customize a setup in Mainstage there are three stages:

1) Create the Screen Control Objects in Layout Mode. These are the icons that should represent your physical control gear.

2) Create you sound and instrument patches in Edit Mode. This is like "cabling up the stomp boxes to lay throuth".

3) Mapping Screen Control Objects to software parameters in Edit Mode. This is like deciding "what will happen in Mobius (or in my sound) if I touch this, or that, kick that pedal or juggle this knob?".

Also, remember to check with Mobius "Configuration / Plugin Parameters" that the looper's parameters you want to map up in Mobius are really exposed to the host. This window is also where you can make your own Mobius scripts work as assignable target parameters in Mainstage.

Well I think that starting from an example is always better than starting from scratch but I understand your point and maybe in this case it makes sense.

Thanks for the hint, I'll try and see what happens.

Per,
How do you alter the size of the Mobius gui? I thought maybe eliminating some buttons would allow me to resize the window, but apparently not.
Thanks

Also,
How do you map the screen items to Mobius when controls such as Record, Overdub etc aren't listed in the mappable parameters on the Mobius strip?

Is there access to them somewhere else? (I mean other then the Configuration menu on Mobius itself?)

Anything you want to access in Mainstage has to be on the list of exported plugin parameters. You do this in Mobius from the
Configuration->Plugin Parameters window. Select the function, script,
or parameter you want to export and click Add. If you are currently
running under Mainstage you'll have to quit and restart to see the changes.

Also note that when binding Mainstage controls to a Mobius function
(Record, Overdub, etc) you have to be sure to set this up as a momentary button. I forget how this is done but after adding the button to the layout there is a checkbox you have to check to get momentary behavior.

Thanks. That is a huge help.

Per,
How do you alter the size of the Mobius gui?
Do it in Mobius standalone version. Then close it down. The new size will be saved on disk and used by the plugin version.

Okay, my current roadblocks are now solved. Many thanks to Jeff and Per. Now if I can only cure the boil on my inner thigh......

Basically directed to Per,

Per,
In your post regarding Multi output in Mainstage, I have 2 questions.

1, Mainstage is not giving me the option for 8xStereo, only 2Xstereo.

2, In regards to the sidechain input, It does not give the option for Aux 1, only Bus 1, is this right?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris

Here's the full menu path for opening Mobius in this regard:
"Instrument slot / MIDI AU-MIDI Controlled Effects / [Incompatible] / Zone Mobius / Mobius / Multi Output (8xStereo)"

Could be. A Bus means a wormhole to stream signal through, while an Aux means the actual virtual mixer fader. This gives that any Bus could possibly be connected to any Aux, although the default is that the numbers line up.
