View Full Version : Sync'd & unsync'd tracks in same track setup

I have a track set up with 5 unsynchronised loops and three track-sync'd.

When the first loop is recorded into one of the un-sync'd loops this becomes the track master and dictates the length of the sync'd loops I record subsequently.

I would like the the track master to be the first of the track-sync'd loops and to ignore the length of any un-sync'd loops recorded before. Is that possible?

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi J

'Sync Master Track' may work (haven't tested it though).

Thanks Stephen,

I have added 'Sync Master Track' button which does not seem to over-ride first loop being recorded acting as master. I'll have to spend a bit more time trying the options one by one. I'll let you know how I get on....

Hi Stephen,

So far I have not found a way of stopping an unsychronized loop being master over any sync enabled loop if it was first loop recorded.

My workround is to record a blank loop into one of my Track Sync'd loops first, then record into my unsync'd loops. When I record the first of my sync'd loops I do so by pressing record and the first Track-sync'd loop will be the master for any other track-sync'd loops.

Resetting the track-sync'd loop removes it's status as potential sync master.

I use Per's technique to transfer sync using track copy = timing and then start recording with multiply. This allow me to start recording straight away and not wait for sync point (like sync-record on EDP)

I knew I'd read it somewhere in the manual (see below) ..... I use this feature on my EDPs a lot to migrate in and out of sync.

I would find it helpful to be able to disable sync on a specific track by pushing Overdub before recording. Additionally I would like to define any track as the new master at anytime. (Sync master track button may do this... I must read manual and test).

Jeremy

copied from manual:

16.10.3 Stop Sync

On the EDP, pressing overdub when the track is reset and Sync=In toggles reception of incoming sync. It also toggles adherence to the tempo specified by TempoSelect. I'm assuming a side effect of this is that you lose the ability to "arm" overdub mode during reset.

Mobius does not yet support this feature, though I don't really like losing the ability to control overdub in reset. Common functions like Multiply and Insert don't do anything in reset mode, I would rather use those. I will probably add a preset parameter that lets you choose which function will trigger Stop Sync. The same is true for the use of the Undo and Overdub functions to control Tempo Select.

Sorry for the delay....

The "Track Sync Master" function will change the master sync track from
one to another, but the new sync track has to already be recorded. If I
understand correctly, you want to record the track sync master without
being synced to any of the current tracks.

Yes, something like Reset/Overdub to disable sync would be nice. You
can achieve something similar with a script.

!name Disable Sync
set trackSyncMode off

But it might be easier to do this with presets. Tracks 1-5 must be using
a preset with track sync off and tracks 6-8 with track sync on?

If you can always make the sync master track 6, then have it use the same
preset as 1-5, it's just another unsync'd track. Then after recording use
"Track Sync Master" to make it the master, then have 7-8 use a preset
with track sync enabled.

Either way you still have to use Track Sync Master to set the master
to 6, because one of the unsync'd tracks will start out being the master.

In this case, what we really need is a "don't let me be the sync master"
parameter that you would turn on in 1-6. Then you could record 1-6
in any order, it's only when you record one of 5-8 that track sync starts
working.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for reply. I've quoted your post in italics with my responses following:

Yes, that's it, as if using two separate devices for sync'd and unsync'd loops.

Yes, something like Reset/Overdub to disable sync would be nice. You

Advantage to me of using Overdub to disable sync is the button is already there in any setup. It's easy to exit record into overdub by ending record with overdub.

But it might be easier to do this with presets. Tracks 1-5 must be using
a preset with track sync off and tracks 6-8 with track sync on?

I've tried this, creating a Track set-up that has five preset unsync'd tracks and three preset sync'd. The sync'd tracks always synchronize to first recorded (or defined by "Track Sync Master").

I can see how that would work. Because it is an unsync'd loop it will ignore timing of all previous loops. By making it "Track Sync Master" all subsequent sync'd loops will synchronize to it. That's the best solution for me as it stands. Thanks for that.

In this case, what we really need is a "don't let me be the sync master"
parameter that you would turn on in 1-6. Then you could record 1-6
in any order, it's only when you record one of 5-8 that track sync starts
working.

I'd prefer for track to ignore sync unless told to synchronize.

Your suggestion above will work - I have added "Track Sync Master" button to the UI... I just have to remember that extra button press.

Cheers

Jeremy

p.s. any thoughts on "sync record" feature? I'm using Per's workround, beginning record with Multiply. Although the less I have to think about at the time of playing the better.
