View Full Version : Any Mac 10.4 (Tiger) users?

I upgraded to Snow Leopard recently and with this came new versions
of the developer tools. A side effect of this that I haven't figured out yet is that I can't compile things targeted for 10.4, I can only make things
for 10.5 (Leopard) and higher.

Before I expend any energy on this, I'd like to know if there is anyone
still using 10.4 and would be unable to upgrade to at least 10.5?

Also, are there still people using PowerPC macs instead of the newer
Intel macs? I can still make "fat binaries" for both processors but if
no one uses PPC any more the binaries would be much smaller.

Thanks,
Jeff

Such an outstanding generous gesture! Of course there are many old Mac's around, but do people use them? Myself I still have a fully working G4 Powerbook and a dual G5, but I doubt I will ever use them for Mobius (got an Intel Macbook for that). It's just this fact that old Macs seem to never break down and they are still so very useful for years after they have become "obsolete", thanks to Apple's good backwards compatibility.

A possible way to go with Mobius could be to keep the last Tiger/PPC binary version available on the download page and focus future development on the up to date technology (Intel CPU, snooleppard). Just a humble thought...

I've just switched from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I second Per's suggestion.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for thinking of us older computers. I did try Mobius on my G4 iBook running Tiger but not fast enough to do what I would want to do.

As Per suggested, the latest 1.43 release of Mobius will only be supported
on OSX 10.5+ Intel, but the previous 1.42 release will still be available for
a period of time for users with PPC machines.

If there are enough PPC users that want to run 1.43, I will consider another
universal binary build but it will have to be more than one or two people.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I still use Tiger on PPC on occasion, but I'm used to using it with old software, because that's all that's ever available anymore. I think it would be good if the older version was still kept available for download, although a PPC version of the new release is probably superfluous.
