Hi, my name is Sim and I've just started using Mobius.
I think it is absolutly amazing software, and love that its is free, I've only been using it about a week so I'm sure I will have some questions soon but in the mean time I'm just experimenting and getting to know the tool, for your information/interest this is how I'm using mobius at the moment.

6 String Fretless Bass (http://www.warwickbass.com/modules/produkte/produkt.php?katID=14440&cl=EN) -> Tascam FW-1804 (http://www.tascam.com/products/fw-1804.html) -> Mac OSX -> Mobius (as stand alone app) -> Tascam FW-1804 (http://www.tascam.com/products/fw-1804.html) -> Markbass LMII bass amp (http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua=en&cat=1&vedi=69)

I also have a Line 6 Guitar POD 2.0 (http://line6.com/pod20/) with Floor Board (http://line6.com/legacy/floorboard.html) linked to my Midi in, they are talking nicely although if anyone has any suggestions for "usable" assignments for these sorts of pedal boards so that I don't have to reinvent the wheel with my assignments, then please let me know.

Cheers,
Sim

Welcome!

On "usable" assignments, I'm not sure what you mean. If the Floorboard
has a device driver that makes it appear as a normal MIDI input device, then
you can select it in the Mobius MIDI Devices window, then go to the
MIDI Control window and bind the messages the Flooboard sends to
various Mobius functions. This is described in the manual.

What is "usable" depends on how you wish to approach looping. Most people
start with Record, Overdub, and Multiply. Then maybe branch out to
Next Loop, Reverse, and Speed. If you want to get deeply into various
looping techniques it is best to have a footswitch with a lot of assignable
buttons. I'm not familiar with the Floorboard but looks like you
only get 4 at a time. That's usable to start with but you might end
up wanting something with more buttons.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the reply. I think maybe being new to this I'm may have asked the wrong question. Maybe the question I should be asking is what are common approaches?
Regarding the Floorboard: I've already got them talking and I'm using the pedal for basics like record, reset (using that a lot due to plenty of mistakes).
What it basically has is 9 banks of 4 buttons. So there are 4 buttons immediately available but another 32 are only two foot presses away, so I maybe need to think about good groupings. I've also managed to get the two pedals to control continuous stuff like volumes. By The Way, is it possible to have multiple midi commands controlling the same function? (i.e. having record available on multiple banks).

Thanks

That's good to know about the Floorboard! A lot of people
look for smaller alternatives to the FCB1010. Are the switches
"momentary" meaning they send a note or CC when you press
and another when you release?

You cannot currently have more than one MIDI message assigned
to the same function. I will fix that eventually but it isn't on the
table for the next few months.

If you can control what the switches do you can have Record
in more than one bank, just make the Floorboard send the same
MIDI note/cc/pgm in several banks.

You cannot currently have more than one MIDI message assigned to the same function.Actually there is a workaround that lets you use at least two different MIDI events for the same function: Use the Scope in the MIDI Control window to set MIDI event A as *Global* and MIDI event B as *Track*, targeting the same Mobius parameter. You will have to redo the track scope assignment for all eight tracks.

This workaround has been my savior for years with Mobius. Today I don't need it as much when running Mobius AU as a plug-in under Mainstage because you can simply create as many Screen Control Objects you need in Mainstage and have them react to different external MIDI events while still targeting the same Mobius parameter.

@Sim,
HI! :-)

@Jeff,
How about setting up a dedicated "Introductions" category on the forum? Wouldn't that be nice! I guess the social vibe would also benefit from admin enabling the use of user avatars/pictures?

Interesting use of Scope!

An Introductions forum is a good idea I'll add that. Avatars should
already be enabled, I have one I'll check permissions to make sure everyone
can have one.
