View Full Version : Record start issue in FL Studio

I have tried to set up Mobius in FL Studio, but ran into a minor problem.

Here's what I have done:
Created a Dashboard (sort of like an internal MIDI controller that can send MIDI messages) to control various functions in Mobius. Configured the Dashboard buttons to send CC messages. Configured various Mobius functions to respond to these CC messages. Linked external MIDI controller (MPD32) to Dashboard. So, the external MIDI controller activates the buttons on the FL Studio Dashboard which then send MIDI CC messages to the MOBIUS VST.

Everything works correctly from the external MIDI controller, EXCEPT the Record function. It will start recording, but this only lasts maybe a second. It behaves like I am holding down the Record button (according to the Mobius help file, long press Record will perform a Reset ). I can recreate this by holding down the Record button on the Dashboard. Everything works correctly from the Dashboard.

From the MPD32, if I hit Record and then quickly hit Overdub, Mobius will loop. If I then tap Record, it will finish the loop and then Reset.

Things I have tried to resolve this issue:
tried Note On/Off instead of CC on Dashboard button, tried momentary versus toggle on the MIDI controller pad, disabled Aftertouch on MPD pad, tried a different MIDI controller, and who knows what else.

Any ideas?

HA! Think I figured it out. I removed the link b/w the external controller and the Dashboard for the Record function and it works properly. The internal controller and the external controller should not send the same MIDI message, lest you get a Long Press.

I'm not sure I understand your last comment about internal and
external controllers.

But in general for hosts that act as a proxy between the MIDI device
and Mobius you have to be careful to :

- make sure the host proxy will send both "down" and "up" events
to Mobius, usually there is an option labeled "momentary" for this

- make sure Mobius is not receiving events directly from the MIDI
device as well as the host proxy, otherwise you will get double
function triggers which can cause lots of strange behavior

I'm not sure I understand your last comment about internal and external controllers.

Basically, their Dashboard can be used like another MIDI controller "inside" FLS that can send MIDI data. You can then link an external/hardware MIDI controller to the buttons, sliders, knobs, etc of the internal controller. This makes it easier to use another hardware device to control Mobius without having to reconfigure anything in Mobius or the new hardware. When I was configuring the Dashboard, I used the same MIDI message settings as my MPD32 preset. Mobius might have been receiving duplicate messages. Only the Record function was affected, which I assume was interpreted as a Long Press.

Dashboard

Dashboard allows you to create software interfaces to your external MIDI hardware, such as keyboards, mixers, samplers, etc. Further, you can use the integrated automation system to record the changes as your song progresses, or set up interfaces that act as internal controllers to bring together the range of commonly tweaked knobs in one place. Dashboard includes several pre-made panels (presets) for popular MIDI devices you can use directly in your projects. You can customize the existing panels for your own use or create new ones from scratch. This way, you can adapt Dashboard for any MIDI device you own without using plugins dedicated to a specific hardware.
