May be it is possible make with script???

multi-voice canon

My goal is to have two (or more) loops plus my live sound working together to play a canon plus a pre-recorded loop so that I can play the last...

My goal is to have two (or more) loops plus my live sound working together to play a canon plus a pre-recorded loop so that I can play the last phrase with a ritard. I'm working in Mobius 2.1 since I just started with this after it was released.

I start with feedback=0 and overdub on all canon loops.

I have found that if I start with no recorded loops and set record threshold=1, I can press record in two (or more) tracks. These loops are now both waiting for threshold. I can then use the menu option to open a saved loop in another loop (with quantize turned off). Then I switch to the first of my canon loops.

Now I can start playing. Both of my original loops reach threshold and they both start recording. I can press record at the end of the first phrase which will start the first voice. I can switch to the next track and press record. It will wait for the end of the first loop and will start the 2nd voice. For a 3 voice canon that's all I need. Both loops will trail behind my 3rd live voice and all is well.

At the end, I can then switch and solo to the pre-recorded phrase have a nice ritard and mute the last loop. This all works fine and scales to more voices. I've played a nice Mozart five-voice canon this way. It's fun.

Here is my problem.

I would like to script a start for this process. But I am running into some problems I can't find a way to work around.

First I can't seem to find a way to individually load a loop in script. I can load a project which will load a saved loop. So that is good. But, once I load a loop, I can only have one loop in record mode waiting for a threshold. Any other loops on which I press record are waiting for synchronization. I've tried focus lock. If this works I haven't found the right combination of settings to make it work.

Or I can script everything but loading the loop. But then I have to load the loop manually. I'd prefer to have everything scripted for a performance.

So is it possible to load a loop separately in a script? Also, is it possible to get two (or more) loops waiting for threshold (knowing that they must be synchronized)?

Thank you for any ideas.

Hi,

I have set Switch Duration to Permanent. With this setting Mobius should act on a "Function: Loop x" command by going to the "x" loop on the next cycle (my switch base) and stay there.

Well, it goes to the new loop but doesn't stay there. In fact Mobius is acting as if it was set to "Switch Duration = Once Return": it goes to the given loop slot and plays it back for one cycle before it returns back to the previous loop.

My temporary solution over here is to edit my MIDI control pedalboard to send only Note On data for the note numbers I use to activate the direct loop calls. With the Note Off data stripped off Mobius 2.1 behaves correctly at "Switch Duration = Permanent".

Here's how the current Stutter works:

Stutter mode is active when you are executing the Stutter or Sustain Stutter functions. During Stutter mode the loop is being extended by copying the contents previous cycle and inserting it after the end of that cycle. After a cycle has been inserted, sound being received by the track will be merged with content of the new cycle in the same way as Overdub mode.

Wouldn't it be cool if it was based on SubCycles instead of Cycles and would work more like Substitute rather than Overdub?

Hm.. maybe one could set this function up with a script to test it out.

The reason I think this would be cool is that it will allow you to seriously trash a loop on a syncing track without loosing the cycle as your global performance timing reference. I, and I think many Mobius users, tend to create the first loop as a one or two bar loop and then multiply its length to get longer. When you switch loop or track this cycle length will be the base that guarantees perfect sync between parts you lay down even if loops do not have the same length.

So when you get to the point where you can't keep on building up the orchestration any more without boring the audience you may go for a "break-down" part using this "Expert Stutter". First maybe kick the Divide by Four button a couple of times to keep only a very short slice of the loop, sounding almost like ringtone. Then you start stuttering, adding new audio and making it longer and making it morph through many phases of poly rhythm related the other tracks (that still play the normal time measure). Here comes the blessing of Secondary Feedback; with that you are able to replace more or less of the audio that is snagged from the previous subcycle while stuttering up the loop length. IMHO much more useful than the overdub way of just adding stuff on top of old layers. Finally, you can use Multiply to cut out a cycle of the new loop you have created and have it chime in with the original time measure kept by the other track's loops. Wouldn't this looping trick be nice to have at hand! :-)

hi,

i encountered a strange behaviour with overdub:

when i record a loop in track 1 and "instant multiply2" this loop and
then switch to track 2 (empty track set to "copy timing")
sometimes i'm not able to "overdub" into this track...it's a little bit strange since mobius seems to be ready for "overdub" (the loop meter changes it's colour), and i can hear me playing but it's just not recording audio into the loop...
when i reset track 2 and then switch back to track 1 and then to track 2 again (to perform "copy timing") it works...
i tried different settings e.g. changing the track leave parameter but with no success, the weird behaviour with "overdub" still happens occasionally...
...i didn't run into this problem before, the only thing i changed in my new setup was to add the "instant multiply2" function, so i reckon it's related to that...
